In an Australian first, the New South Wales Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors has launched a multilingual telephone helpline for people affected by overseas conflicts.
Called Witness to War, the free phone service operates from Monday to Friday, between 9am and 4pm.
It employs about ten “bi-cultural workers” who offer support to distressed people in eight different languages – Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Hazaragi, Kurdish (Sorani), Pashto, Ukrainian and Urdu.
