43-year-old Balwinder Ghuman, resident of Cairns, has been accused of stabbing his wife and mother-in-law to death.

He allegedly killed them in rage after an argument over his heavy drinking at their home in Gordonvale on Monday.

Balwinder allegedly stabbed his wife, Manjinder and also his father-in-law, Sarwan Singh Ghuman, 72, when he came to save his daughter. He then chased his mother-in-law, Sukhwinder Ghuman, 66 outside their home and allegedly stabbed her in front of horrified neighbours.

Courier Mail reported that witnesses have told the police that they saw Balwinder standing bare-chested, soaked in blood, outside on the street.

Balwinder’s wife and his mother-in-law were pronounced dead at the scene while his father-in-law is currently being treated in hospital for serious injuries.

Ghuman is under arrest and has been charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and two additional charges.

He is expected to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today.
