Department of Jobs and Small Business has conducted a review of the skilled occupation list. However, the Immigration Minister makes the final call on the skilled migration occupation lists.
It is anticipated that some occupations can be removed from the list.
“Occupations like Manufacturer, Film and Video Editor, Stage Manager, Video Producer, Cabler, Librarian Technician and Residential Care Officer are likely to be removed from the lists,” opines Chaman Preet, a Melbourne based migration agent.
The Department of Jobs and Small Business had flagged some of these occupations for removal in May. However, Chaman Preet believes that unflagged occupations might also be impacted.
“While certain occupations were flagged for removal, it is possible for unflagged occupations to be impacted by the review process depending on the supply. If there are too many people pursuing one particular field, they might stop the intake temporarily. For instance, Hairdresser was removed from the medium term list but lots of states have it back again.,” Chaman Preet said.
Most of the states have announced their skill occupation list. NSW (excluding Northern Inland for 489) and ACT (for closed occupations on the ACT list and offshore applicants) are still closed.
