NRI Model stranded in India after father tears her passport

27-year-old Indian-origin model left in a lurch in India when her father allegedly tore her passport into pieces.

Shital Patil, who lives in Houston in Texas, US, was visiting India to see her mother. She alleges that her father stole her green card and passport and tore them into pieces.

In a tweet, Patil said, "I came to India because I was told my Mother is going through a serious procedure. After I came here it is very sad, Mr Ravindra Patil (my Father) abused me and stole my Passport and Green Card by threatening me with a gun."
Patil, who hails from Ambad in Nashik, migrated to the US when she was 19. According to some media reports, Patil's father was against her modelling and acting career, an allegation Shital's father denies.

She tweeted to the Minister of External Affairs, Ms Sushma Swaraj and other authorities seeking help.

"I need to go back to the US as soon as possible for my kids and job. If I don't reach on time, I also may lose the job, and I don't want my kids to suffer. Any help regarding this matter is highly appreciated," one of tweet reads.
According to, after her tweets, the Mumbai and Nashik police took action. Her passport was printed and dispatched.

"I tore the passport out of anger," he said. We want her to come back and live with us, but she wants to live in Texas," Shital's father was quoted saying by The Times of India.
