Mohammad Eqlakh is an Indian batsman. He arrived in Zimbabwe last month. He played in three Logan Cup matches for Manicaland Mountaineer, allegedly without a work permit according to a report published by Zimbabwe’s .
“The Daily News understands that the 21-year-old right handed batsman was picked up by immigration officials earlier this week and had spent the last few days under detention awaiting his deportation back to India,” the report reads.
Eqlakh was reportedly issued with a visitor’s visa upon arrival and was not supposed to play in the competition.
Mountaineers manager Steady Musoso was quoted as saying, “I can confirm that Mohammad was deported last Saturday. He had overstayed by 38 days. It was very unfortunate that he had to go back home. We went to Immigration to sort out his visa that is when he got arrested. He was in remand from Wednesday till Saturday.”
Eqlakh hails from Nevada in Uttar Pradesh, who made his debut for Mountaineer on November 6, 2017. Since then, he has played 4 first-class matches. He scored a ton his second match.
Embassy of India in Zimbabwe did not respond to queries made regarding the incident.
