From August, the for Skilled - Independent (subclass 189) and Skilled - Regional Provisional (subclass 489) will occur once each month.
Currently the rounds occur twice every month.
The department has notified that the rounds now will occur at on the 11th day of each month, "effective 11 August 2018."
However, the department has clarified that there is no change to the overall number of invitations provided each month.
According to migration expert Chaman Preet, the turnaround time for 189 applicants would be starting for two weeks. "That means the earliest they could get an invite if they were above the points for their occupation would be two weeks. Now it’s going to be at least one month before any 189 applicant gets an invite," she says.
"It’s not a significant impact if the number of invites issued each month remains the same," Chaman Preet points out.
