The US has revoked the American citizenship of Baljinder Singh alias Davinder Singh, .

Authorities said 43-year-old Sing acquired the citizenship by fraud. Singh, who married a US citizen, has now been reverted to the Green Card status.

The Department of Justice moved a petition against Singh before a US court in last September.

“The U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services filed a civil denaturalization complaint against Baljinder Singh, 43, Tuesday accusing the India native of breaking America's immigration laws,” New Jersey’s local news website .

A US District Court in New Jersey ordered earlier this month to revoke Singh’s naturalized US citizenship.

“The defendant exploited our immigration system and unlawfully secured the ultimate immigration benefit of naturalisation, which undermines both the nation's security and our lawful immigration system,” Acting Assistant Attorney General Chad Readler of the Justice Department's Civil Division was quoted saying by the Indian news agency PTI.

“Singh's denaturalisation is the first arising out of a growing body of cases referred to the Department of Justice by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) as part of Operation Janus,” the Department of Justice said in a statement.

Baljinder Singh arrived in the United States on September 25, 1991. He had no travel documents or identity documents. He claimed that his name was Davinder Singh. A court ordered against his plea to let him stay in the US and ordered to deport him on January 7, 1992.

One month later, Singh filed an asylum plea under the name Baljinder Singh but abandoned it after marrying a US citizen. He became an American citizen in 2006 under the name Baljinder Singh.

The New Jersey court has ordered to revoke his naturalized US citizenship. His Certificate of Naturalisation has been cancelled.
