The event was a “showcase of two important initiatives which give a voice to Australia’s migrants and refugees and insights into our national identity” , as was mentioned by the organisers.
“To truly understand Australian identity, cultural institutions must constantly strive to create new and innovative ways to give a voice to Australia’s migrants”, said Director and CEO of the Museum Mr Kevin Sumption.
“For nearly 30 years, the Museum has presented diverse migrant stories through our Welcome Wall unveiling ceremonies and our exhibitions and programs”, he said.
Among the organisations that supported the events was SBS. In presence was the Director of SBS Radio/ALC, Mr David Hua, Senior Content Manager Ms Ildiko Dauda and Executive Producer of SBS Greek, Mr Efthymios (Themi) Kallos.
One the financial supporters was the Kytherian Association of Australia. A delegation of the Association, headed by its president Emmanuel Alfieris, was in attendance.
The Motherland – Exile/Refuge – Migration (repeat) exhibition was produced Settlement Services International, headed by Greek-Australian Ms Violet Roumeliotis.
In attendance were, Ms Tina Koutsogiannis, the Museum’s Partnerships Manager, Greece’s Consul General in Sydney, Mr Christos Karras, the chairperson of the Ethnic Communities Council of NSW, Mr Peter Doukas and others.
