Lina Belios spoke to SBS Greek about the special initiative she undertook to help animals injured by the blaze


Melbourne resident Lina Belios visits Kangaroo Island twice a year to see her son and his family who live there.

South Australia’s haven for protected koalas and other wildlife is among the places most affected by the devastating bushfires.

Shocked and saddened by the news of injured animals making headlines, Ms Belios was determined to find a way to help.

A seamstress by trade, she started sewing gloves and protective pouches for koalas with burnt paws, orphaned kangaroo babies and other animals affected by the fires, with her husband’s help.
