One of the reasons Mr. Adonopoulos decided to study Greek in the first place is his Greek background. His father hails from a small village near Argos, while his mother is from Larnaca, Cyprus.
«I am very proud of my Greek descent and I am obsessed with everything Greek» said Mr. Adonopoulos.
Greek also appeals to Mr. Adonopoulos because it is a «musical and lyrical language». He is able to converse but he that is not enough for him. His goal is to master Greek to the point that people will not be able to distinguish whether he was born in Greece or in Australia.
«Greek is harder to learn»
Mr. Adonopoulos argued that Greek was harder to learn than Spanish, despite the fact that he had gone to Greek school when younger. He said that the Spanish vocabulary is similar to the English one, which makes it easier for him to remember the words. «In addition spelling in Spanish is straightforward while in Greek it is much harder» Mr. Adonopoulos said.
When asked whether he was planning to learn more languages in the future, Mr. Adonopoulos said absolutely not. He would rather spend time mastering the languages he already knows.
