The president of the Australian Medical Association, has expressed concerns regarding the recent posts by Liberal MP Craig Kelly.
The Association's president, Dr Omar Khorshid, said that people should leave matters of medicine to the doctors and follow proper health advice.
Mr Kelly shared a study that alleges that the mandated use of masks by children causes learning difficulties and headaches, among other things. The study hasn't been peer-reviewed. Mr Kelly likened the use of masks by children to abuse.
The comments cause concern to the scientific community in Australia, as health experts say that if the spread of misinformation is left unchecked, it would undermine crucial trust in Australian public health officials and could hamper efforts to smother the virus.
