Archbishop Makarios commended the philanthropic initiative of a Sydney Parish, during a visit at the site of the project on Tuesday evening.
His Eminence joined the volunteers of the Church of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene, at Sydney’s Hart Park, near Liverpool and offered them a helping hand giving packaged meals to community members in need of support.
The “Homeless Feed” program targets primarily people without shelter, but is broadly available to anyone in need of food relief and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, nationality or anything else.
During the Archbishop’s visit, the Parish Priest of the Church, Archimandrite Prohoros Anastasiadis, was present at the site, as well as the volunteers and members of the Ladies Auxiliary who help run the programme.
His Eminence gave his blessings and praised Fr Prohoros for the program which he said should serve as a model for similar undertakings under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese.

“We had the pleasure to receive the Blessings of His Eminence and illustrate to Him all aspects of our feed,” reads an excerpt of a Facebook post on the parish’s page signed by Fr Prohoros, calling the public to support their efforts.
The “Homeless feed” program started about one and a half month ago and enjoys the support of the local community and authorities.
