Noong nagsimula ang SBS taong 1975, ang serbisyo ay sumahimpapawid lamang sa walong wika .

Pagtugon sa pangangailangan ng komunidad

At upang maipagtuloy na maihatid ito, nagsasagawa ang SBS ng pagsusuri tuwing ika-limang taon sa nilalaman ng mga programa nito sa iba’t-ibang wika.
Isa sa mga pangunahing batayan nito ang Australian Bureau of Statistics.
At ayon kay David Hua, ang resulta ng Census na isinagawa ng taong ito’y malalaman sa Hunyo 2022.
"And when that comes out that will help us to inform what language services SBS will be delivering now as the community evolves.
SBS absolutely needs to match that evolution and to provide the services which are most required for the community that we serve."
Inilunsad ng SBS Ang anim na linggong public consultation upang malaman kung anu-ano ang mga pamantayan ang gagamitin sa pagbuo ng mga serbisyo sa iba't-ibang wika.
"We also take into account the types of consumption habits that our audiences have - be they radio listening, be they podcast listening, be they digital consumption. SBS needs to review those services in order to be as relevant as possible to multicultural and multilingual Australians."
Mga bagong komunidad
Ayon kay Mohammad Al-Khafaji, chief executive ng Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia (FECCA), mahalagang maihatid at malaman sa nasabing review ang pangangailangan at tinig ng mga bago at malilit na komunidad.
“SBS is really important to new arrivals in Australia, to refugee communities, especially to new and emerging communities," aniya.

"Of course, we would love to see more languages added rather than other languages taken off and Australia's cultural diversity is only growing and we hope that the government funding matches that for SBS to be able to provide additional languages."
Sang-ayon si David Hua, na di lamang ang bilang ng populasyon ang mahalaga.

"It's very much about the needs of the community and I am very proud that SBS, as a public service media broadcaster, delivers content in languages that are for communities where there maybe just a few thousand speakers in Australia."
“Regularly updating our language offering enables SBS to better service the largest communities with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds," he says, "as well as offering services to emerging and high-needs communities.
