The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) on Wednesday has issued
The areas expected to be affected go from just north of Newcastle to the border with Victoria.
Damaging winds are expected in the southern portion of the area during the day. Rainfalls are expected to cease but the wind could bring swells of up to 6 metres.
In the past 24 hours, winds have reached 94 km/h at Sydney airport and 111 km/h at Molineux Point.
There is also a severe weather warning for potential thunderstorms in parts of Queensland and North Eastern New South Wales for Wednesday afternoon and potentially extending their impact tomorrow, with heavy to intense rainfall, locally damaging winds and giant hail (5cms in diameter or more).
The State Emergency Service (SES) has directed people to evacuate from a number of areas because should the rain persist, those areas will become isolated.
Those who don’t leave may be trapped without power, water and other essential services and it may be too dangerous to organise a rescue.
The recommendation is then to stay outside of the flood areas, with family, friends or at accommodation. If that’s not possible, have been made available.
