COVID-19 Update: Vaccination for 5-11-year olds will begin from 10 January, says PM

This is your update on the Coronavirus in Australia for 10 December 2021.

  • PM Scott Morrison says that 40 million vaccines doses have been administered in Australia.
  • Mr Morrison says Australia has learned from the experience of the US and Canada in rolling out vaccination for children.
  • Children between the ages of five and 11 will be able to get Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in Australia from next month. Approval has been sought for Moderna vaccines as well.
  • Six people were in the community whilst infectious in the Gold Coast. A school has also been listed in the exposure sites.
  • NSW detects no new Omicron infections overnight, but fragments of coronavirus have been found in wastewater in regional NSW.
  • The ACT says that it will not be able to book vaccination appointment for children until the supply of vaccines is confirmed by Pfizer.
COVID-19 STATS: 

Victoria recorded 1,206 locally acquired cases and two deaths.
NSW recorded 516 new community cases. 
The ACT recorded six cases, and Queensland four.
