COVID-19 Update: Scott Morrison pushes for easing of international travel requirements

  • Victoria has reported 11 new COVID-19 deaths, while five people have died from the disease in NSW.
  • Seven people lost their lives due to the virus in Queensland.
  • Sixty-four per cent of people aged 18 and over in Victoria have now received three vaccine doses.
  • International travellers could soon have their pre-departure testing requirements removed after the prime minister flagged a further easing of restrictions.
  • Travellers currently need to show a negative COVID-19 test result in order to board a flight to Australia even if they are fully vaccinated.
  • He said Health Minister Greg Hunt will be making an announcement on the matter soon.
  • China locked down an industrial city of nine million people this week and reported more than 4,000 virus cases on Tuesday.

COVID-19 Australian Stats

New South Wales reported 1,162 patients hospitalised with 44 in intensive care. There were five deaths and 24,115 new cases of COVID-19.

In Victoria, 243 people are in hospital with 23 in ICU and five on ventilators. There were 11 deaths and 10,471 new infections.

In Queensland, there were 10,476 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths. 252 people are hospitalised with COVID-19, with seven patients in ICU.
