COVID-19 update: Regional Victoria re-enters lockdown from today, NSW registers 825 new local COVID-19 cases

Victoria records 61 new locally acquired cases, the entire state is now in lockdown
NSW registers the highest record of cases by any state since the pandemic began
Queensland records another day of zero locally acquired cases
ACT records eight new cases, none within the community while infectious

New South Wales

New South Wales has registered a new record in locally acquired COVID-19 cases with 825 infections and three dead people - an unvaccinated man in his 90s, a fully vaccinated man in his 80s and a woman in her 90s, who had received one dose.

NSW Police have deployed 1,500 officers to ensure anti-lockdown protests do not occur this afternoon. Trains are skipping major Sydney train stations and taxis and rideshare operators are banned from the CBD.

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 61 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases, 39 were in the community while infectious.

A significant number of cases have been detected in regional Victoria. Therefore, from 1pm today all regional Victoria has gone into lockdown.

The rules for regional areas will be the same as those in place for Greater Melbourne, except for the curfew conditions that will not apply to regional Victoria for now.

ACT has recorded eight new locally acquired COVID-19 cases and is planning to include adolescents aged as young as 12 in its vaccine rollout before the end of the year.
Queensland has recorded another day of zero local COVID-19 cases and authorities have reinforced the call to people 16 and over to get vaccinated.
