COVID-19 update: QLD, ACT ease health measures as Australia records 29 deaths

On Tuesday, Australia reported at least 29 COVID-19 deaths, including 12 in New South Wales and eight each in Victoria and Queensland and one in the Australia Capital Territory (ACT). 

The ACT has further eased  from 11:59 pm on Monday, 4 April. 

International vaccinated travellers are no longer required to take a COVID-19 test within 24 hours of arrival in the ACT if they had tested positive for coronavirus in 13 weeks before their scheduled departure. Earlier the period was nine weeks. 

Unvaccinated travellers aged 12 and two months to 17 years are no longer required to notify ACT Health of their arrival and quarantine for seven days.

Health Minister Greg Hunt has urged eligible Australians to get their fourth vaccine dose. He said eligible residents could pair their annual flu jab with the second booster dose.  

Queenslanders are invited to participate in the Queensland COVID-19 Safety and Efficacy Statewide Study. The study aims to understand the short, medium and long-term impacts of COVID-19 and vaccines in Queensland.

Western Australia (WA) to allow staged resumption of cruising under stringent measures from 17 April. Initially, small interstate ships with up to 350 guests will be allowed in the state. 

Parents will be allowed back on school sites for outside school pick-up and drop-off, face to face parent-teacher meetings, and year group assemblies for Term 2 in the 
South Australians  for seven days if anyone in the family has tested positive for COVID-19. The households must get a PCR test on the sixth day or a rapid antigen test on days 1, 3, 5 and 7 (alternative days) if there are no COVID-19 symptoms.                                        

The NSW government to provide $5 million grants for community wellbeing-focused events and initiatives as part of their plan to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has returned to work after completing a seven day isolation period. Mr Andrews was found COVID-19 positive on 28 March.  


COVID-19 Australian Stats for 5 April 2022

New South Wales: 19,183 new cases, 1,467 in hospital, 56 in ICU and 12 deaths 

Victoria: 12,007 new cases, 329 in hospital, 18 in ICU and eight deaths 

Tasmania:  2,437 new cases, 44 in hospital, two in ICU and zero deaths 

Queensland: 9,946 new cases, 479 in hospital, 15 in ICU and eight deaths 

Australian Capital Territory: 918 new cases, 418 in hospital, five in ICU and one death 

Western Australia: 8,145 new cases, 242 in hospital, six in ICU and five historical deaths dating back to 31 March
