COVID-19 update: NSW reports another coronavirus case record

  • Case numbers in NSW are on the rise again

New South Wales
NSW has recorded 919 new locally acquired cases, with at least 37 cases in the community while infectious. Two people have died.

Guildford, Auburn, Merrylands, Greystanes, Granville, Punchbowl, Yagoona and Blacktown remain the suburbs of concern. Meanwhile, the virus fragments have been detected at the sewage treatment plants in Bateau Bay, Toukley and Merimbula.  

Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant says there are currently 113 cases in intensive care out of which 98 are unvaccinated.

Victoria
Victoria has recorded 45 new locally acquired cases, with 28 cases in the community while infectious.

Health Minister Martin Foley says that out of 538 active cases, more than half are under 30, including 114 aged under nine.  

People aged 16 and 17 can access Pfizer, while 18-39 can now receive either AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine. AstraZeneca is the only option for those aged 60 and over.

Australian Capital Territory
The territory has recorded 9 new locally acquired cases bringing the total number of active cases to 176.

Minister for Health Rachel Stephen-Smith says enrolled nurses, student nurses and student midwives will be inducted and trained to give COVID-19 vaccinations ahead of expected increases in vaccine supply.
