COVID-19 update: NSW accelerates its reopening, Victoria eases border restrictions

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 1,638 new locally acquired cases and two deaths. 

From today, red zone areas that are not locked down in New South Wales and the ACT are re-classified as orange zones, allowing thousands of stranded Victorians to .

From tomorrow, 8 October, people with a disability can get vaccinated without a booking at state vaccination hubs. The state will also launch ten dedicated disability pop-up vaccination hubs in areas of concern.

New South Wales

NSW has recorded 587 new locally acquired cases and eight deaths.

Premier Dominic Perrottet announced changes to the state's reopening plan after it reached the 70 per cent double vaccination milestone. 

From Monday, 11 October, indoor home gatherings will double to 10 visitors (not counting children) and outdoor gatherings will increase from 20 to 30. 

Caps on outdoor weddings and funerals will double to 100. Indoor pools will also reopen.

Australian Capital Territory

The territory has recorded 41 locally acquired cases. 

The ACT has become the first jurisdiction in the country to pass the 96 per cent first dose mark for people aged 12 years and over.
