The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) now recommends a winter COVID-19 booster dose for people aged 16-64 with a medical condition, and people with a disability from 30 May.

ATAGI said the fourth or winter booster dose is not recommended for healthy people (aged 16-64) who have received three vaccine doses. This includes health care workers and pregnant women who don't have other risk factors.

ATAGI's recommendation is expected to cover additional 1.5 million residents.

Currently, the fourth dose is available to most people in high-risk groups, including people aged 65 and above, residents of aged care or disability care facilities, people with severe immunocompromise, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 or above.
