COVID-19 update: ‘Extremely concerning’: Hefty fines and tougher restrictions for NSW

New South Wales
NSW has recorded 466 new locally acquired cases and four deaths. At least 68 cases were in the community while infectious.

An additional 500 Australian Defence Force personnel will join the NSW Police compliance operation from Monday 16 August, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said, introducing tougher restrictions.

Those leaving Greater Sydney must . The 10km limit has been reduced to 5km for all residents of Greater Sydney.

From Monday 16 August, residents in can go outdoors only to exercise and supervise children; no outdoor recreation is allowed.  People who live alone must now register their “singles bubble” on .

The fines for breaching public health orders have been increased to $5,000.

Victoria
Victoria has recorded 21 new locally acquired cases, out of which three are not linked to known outbreaks. Ten cases were in the community while infectious.

Chadstone shopping centre in Melbourne, has been declared a COVID-19 exposure site. There are now more than 450 , including Highpoint shopping centre and several large apartment blocks.
