The Australian Health Protection Principal (AHPP) Committee notes that the number of daily COVID-19 cases has increased by more than 76 per cent between 11 March and 23 March. The number of hospitalisations jumped by nearly 25 per cent in the same period.
AHPP said the current wave could peak around mid-April in many jurisdictions.
Authorities have attributed the rise in daily COVID cases to a sub-variant of the Omicron strain known as BA.2.
