His son, Donald Trump Jr., announced the support of New York, their home state, during a roll-call vote at the Republican National Convention, ensuring Trump had the majority of delegates - 1,237 - needed to contest the Nov. 8 US presidential election.

With three of Trump's other children at his side, the son said: "It is my honor to be able to throw Donald Trump over the top in the delegate count tonight."

Melania Trump has given a speech at the Republican National Convention that includes passages almost identical to those in a speech by Michelle Obama.

Donald Trump’s wife has been criticised for giving a speech that bears similarities to a speech given by Michelle Obama in 2008.

Mrs Trump took to the stage at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland on Monday to speak in support of her husband, presumptive Republican candidate Donald Trump.

During her appearance, journalist Jarrett Hill pointed out that some passages in her speech appeared to be lifted from a speech given by Michelle Obama at the Democratic Convention in 2008.
