Senator the Hon. Fiona Nash, Minister for Regional Development, launched this year’s event and will be joined by Salvation Army Territorial Multicultural Coordinator, Captain Nesan Kistan.
The Red Shield Doorknock launch to multicultural communities is one of the key events of the annual Red Shield Appeal which culminates with the Doorknock weekend on May 28-29.
Mr. Joseph Assaf, Chairman of Ethnic Business Awards, has been a staunch supporter and driver to garner support for The Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal for over twenty years.
“The Salvation Army is an army for everyone, from everywhere. From every religion and every background. This army has no geographical, social or religious boundaries and their mission is to help and that they do. Thank God for the Salvos. ” he said.
Captain Nesan Kistan, Territorial Multicultural Coordinator, says The Salvation Army would not be able to maintain its strong presence in multicultural communities without the support of the Australian public, who volunteer their time and give generously to the Red Shield Doorknock.
The Salvation Army provides a number of important social services for multicultural Australia that includes homeless support, women’s and children’s services, financial counselling through Moneycare, addiction and recovery services, legal assistance through Salvos Legal Humanitarian, English classes, learn to drive programs and many more.
“The funds raised from the Red Shield Doorknock ensure The Salvation Army can continue to develop and empower local communities that are in need of extra support,” Captain Kistan said.
“Now more than ever, it’s vital we support people from diverse cultures and backgrounds so that Australia can remain an open, inclusive and cohesive multicultural society.”
