As reported by , Morrison government is due to consider a federal plan that suggests to force new migrants to live in regional areas for five years. Those from Skilled and Family immigration pathway might be included in this policy; so does refugees.
This plan aims to ease the population congestion in both Sydney and Melbourne, which attract 87% of new migrants from last financial year.
New migrants are believed to hold a strong relationships with local communities after living in regional areas for five years, and they might choose to live there permanently due to their local employment and their children's education. 
Tony Abbott and Peter Dutton have both suggested reduction on migrants intake, however the former Ctizenship Minister Alan Tudge claimed that distribution of people is another reason that creates population pressure.

As reported by Sky News, Labor MP Richard Marles from Geelong is welcoming more migrants to move to regional areas, but he doubted they will be forced to leave wherever they are living.
