Home prices jumped 10.9% in 2016

Capital city home prices jumped 1.4 per cent in December, boosting annual growth to 10.9 per cent, RP Data-Core Logic research shows.

Home prices in Australia's capital cities rose 10.9 per cent in 2016, their biggest annual jump in seven years.

Dwelling values also rose 1.4 per cent in December, the most recent RP Data-Core Logic Home Value Index shows.

In the three months to December 30, Darwin was the strongest housing market with prices jumping 5.9 per cent, while Adelaide was the weakest with prices falling 1.6 per cent.
