We are looking for original, well-crafted, carefully-researched news articles and video content in Mandarin/ Cantonese that will connect with an online audience of Chinese-speakers in Australia.
We are especially interested in content from contributors based in Western Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory, the ACT, South Australia, and Queensland.
We welcome you to pitch a story idea on any topic including event coverage, travel, real estate, business and finance, health, education, culture, community perspectives on local news, and inspiring stories of people in the Chinese-speaking community.
We mostly publish articles that are between 300-800 words, and videos that are between 1-8 minutes long.
- a brief summary of your idea (2-3 paragraphs) including a draft headline, and who your talent is,
- your resume,
- examples of your published work.
In some circumstances, the commissioning editor may offer to “take a look” at your proposed contribution. This means that you are invited to submit it speculatively and you will be paid only if your contribution is accepted.
If we agree to proceed with your idea, you will need to have an ABN (Australian Business Number), sign a contract which allows SBS to engage you as a contributor, and complete an SBS contractor induction.
Once you are an established contributor and have published work with us, the Editor may commission ongoing contributions from you.
We publish contributions from all freelances on our standard copyright terms and payment is at our normal rates, unless agreed otherwise before publication. Our rates will be outlined at the time of commissioning.
Everything we commission must reflect the ,, and our values. Read more about SBS中文 and explore our site to see the kind of content we publish.
We receive a large volume of email and will not be able to respond to every pitch. If it is the right fit, we will be in touch in a week or two. If your story is time-sensitive, please mention this in the subject line of your email.
