The federal government's My GOV tax portal has crashed as thousands of Australians log-on to try and claim their return. [[fri 12th]]

It comes amid a record high tax year with over one-million people having filed their return since the beginning of July, compared to just 600,000 at the same time last year. [[thurs 11th]]

The increase in tax claims is being attributed to the Coalition passing its $158 billion tax package.

As a result people earning up to $126,000 are entitled to a return of between $255 and $1,080 when they submit their 2018-19 tax return.

Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers says Labor warned the government the surge in tax cuts would require better online services.
