يستعد السكان لعملية تنظيف كبرى بعدما غمرت المياه أجزاء من ولاية نيو ساوث ويلز بما يعادل شهراً من الأمطار خلال 24 ساعة.

Dozens of warnings remain active across the state, as many towns still face flood warnings from the torrential downpour.

تسببت الأمطار الغزيرة والرياح المدمرة في إحداث أضرار في مناطق غرب سيدني، فيما لا يزال فيضان الأنهار يهدد منازل السكان.

ولا تزال أوامر الإخلاء سارية في البلدات الواقعة على طول نهري نابيان وهاوكسبري. ومن المتوقع أن يبلغ ارتفاع نهر هاوكيسبيري حوالي 9.6 متر، مع استعداد البلدات المجاورة للفيضانات.

ولا يزال هناك 60 تحذيراً نشطاً في جميع أنحاء الولاية، حيث أصدرت خدمات الطوارئ الحكومية في نيو ساوث ويلز ما لا يقل عن 12 أمراً بالإخلاء بسبب مخاوف من الفيضانات.

ويقوم السكان وأصحاب المصالح التجارية الذين تم السماح لهم بالعودة، بتقييم الأضرار التي لحقت بممتلكاتهم بعدما هطلت عليهم أمطار تراوحت ما بين 200 ملم إلى 250 ملم خلال 24 ساعة.
وقال دالاس بيرنز، كبير المشرفين على خدمات الطوارئ في نيو ساوث ويلز، إن عملية التنظيف التي تجريها الولاية ستكون كبرى.

وقد تسببت العواصف الهوجاء في حدوث انهيارات أرضية وفيضانات مفاجئة غمرت المنازل بالمياه، فيما قام عمال خدمات الطوارئ بأكثر من 200 عملية إنقاذ من الفيضانات.
