5 reasons it’s better to watch a TV chef than be one

They might be the rock stars of the food world, but don’t be fooled into thinking celebrity chefs have it easy. The Instagram adventures of these Food Network Australia stars prove how tough it can be as a TV chef. Catch these guys and plenty more food TV on Channel 33, live from 1pm today.

1. Because fishing is harder than it looks

While ordinary folk can order serious-sized snappers from the local fishmonger, TV chefs like Curtis Stone here have to catch ’em in front of the camera and look good. Take 153… and rolling.

2. At least selfie sticks won’t give you back pain

Sure, it’s a little embarrassing to wield a selfie stick on holidays, but at least those gizmos are compact and lightweight! When Anthony Bourdain goes traveling, he’s strapped to a hefty filming machine. That said, Bourdain does have a rigorous eating schedule, so maybe this is part of his workout routine.

3. Your dentist can’t prove you’re lying about the sugar

When most of us visit the dentist, we have the ability to blatantly lie: “Of course I don’t eat cake every day of the week…” (Insert nervous laughter.) Italian-American chef and Food Network star, Giada de Laurentiis isn’t so lucky. Her dentist probably follows her on , saving sugary pics to her fillings file.

4. A backyard barbie doesn’t result in singed eyebrows

Impressing your friends and family with a medium-rare T-bone is one thing, cooking a steak over searing “Um, should somebody call the Fire Brigade?” heat is another. For chef Roger Mooking of Man Fire Food, dangerous flame is all in a day’s work.

5. Roller skates aren’t necessary when doing the weekly shop

Peak hour at the supermarket isn’t pretty, but imagine if you were running around with a bunch of other hunger-driven chefs whose trolleys basically double as bumper cars? In Guy’s Grocery Games, hosted by Guy Fieri, the chef contestants make V8 Supercars look like L-platers.
