SBS is continually building our slate of podcasts that feature diverse Australian voices and align with the SBS Charter. 

Since the launch of the network's first podcast in 2008, SBS' audio output has grown to include over 300 podcasts in more than 60 languages. 

SBS produces award-winning podcasts that are downloaded by millions of Australians each year, including commissioned series like Should You Really Eat That?, SEEN, Bad Taste, The Idiom, Everything We Need and many others. Each year SBS Audio welcomes podcast pitches from the public for original podcast series in any genre, language and format. 

We look for ideas that align with SBS’ duties under the SBS Charter; to inform, educate and entertain all Australians, and in doing so, reflect Australia’s multicultural society.

As Australia’s multicultural and Indigenous broadcaster, we are committed to ensuring all Australians hear themselves and their stories reflected. The SBS Commissioning Equity & Inclusion Guidelines reflect our unique role in the media landscape and our aim to create a more level playing field for creatives who have been under-represented in our sector.

Successful pitches commissioned from our call outs in 2023, 2022 and 2021 include Grand Gestures, Grave Matters, Why is Australia in Eurovision?, Say Kimchi, Story Globe, SEEN, Like Us, The Idiom, My First Year in Australia, Bad Taste, BLA.C.K. Tips for pitching your podcast idea to SBS

• Read the SBS Charter in full and consider how your project aligns with SBS' principal functions as Australia's multicultural and multilingual public broadcaster.
• Your ‘elevator pitch’ is the first thing the review panel will look at.
• SBS publishes podcasts that are multilingual, in a language other than English, or in English.
• If you would like to provide an audio file with your submission such as a short trailer, pilot, or an example of previous work, please email a download link (e.g. Dropbox) to [e-mail] with your podcast title and 'Audio example' in the subject line.
• We support the development of creative talent from communities traditionally under-represented in our industry including people who identify as culturally and linguistically diverse, First Nations, people with disability, LGBTIQ+ and women. The SBS Commissioning Equity & Inclusion Guidelines provide further information.
• When creating content about under-represented communities, ask yourself who should be telling this story? It is important that key creatives involved with the project have appropriate lived experience.
